WESTERN CAPE – Ridding our communities of the illegal possession of firearms and bringing the perpetrators of the law to book yielded positive results when members of Cloetesville SAPS and Maitland Flying Squad arrested several suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition respectively. On Wednesday, 07 August 2024 at about 08:50, members pursued information they received from a member of the public about a firearm at a premises in Hoek Street, Cloetesville. The members immediately operationalised the information and searched the premises where they found a .38 Special revolver and ammunition hidden under a couch. A 35-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court once charged on the mentioned charge. In a separate incident, on Wednesday 07 August 2024 at around 00:10, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad responded to a complaint of a hijacked white Toyota Yaris and while on their way to the scene the vehicle was spotted at Nkani Street. The members attended to the identified address and gave a chase until Fukuse Street in Wallacedene where two warning shots were fired. No one was injured. The two adult male occupants were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle and the possession of stolen cellular telephone. Once charged the suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates court on the mentioned charge.
