Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has been disheartened by the horrific incident which took place this morning, Tuesday, 06 August 2024, in Kabokweni, just outside White River. “We are deeply saddened by the report of this tragic incident,” remarks the General. The sentiment by the General were echoed following a tragic incident of a Gender-Based-Violence which had occurred during Women’s Month Celebration. Preliminary reports indicate that a man fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Police and Emergency Services Personnel were dispatched to the scene and are currently still at the scene, however, it appears that both individuals have died as a result of the incident. Whilst investigators continue to probe, General Mkhwanazi emphasized that today’s tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and support for those impacted by such violence. As part of efforts to address the challenges of GBVF, the SAPS in Mpumalanga has organised a Prayer Day tomorrow, Wednesday 07 August 2024 in Ermelo where members, together with Faith-Based-Organisations will be in solidarity and pray against this scourge will has engulfed our society. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking incident. Domestic violence is an issue that affects individuals and communities globally, and we urge anyone who may be experiencing or aware of domestic violence to seek help. There are numerous resources and support systems available, including our Crime Stop number 08600 10111 and Victim Friendly Facilities in our Police Stations across the province, that can provide assistance and guidance,” said the General.
