Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The SAPS in collaboration with community police structures, including the Blue Patrollers, and other relevant external stakeholders, operated tirelessly to address priority crimes and to ensure that the communities in the Northern Cape are and feel safe. The weekly actions and activities which commenced on Monday, 29 July 2024 until Sunday, 04 August 2024, included vehicle check points (VCP’s), stop and searches, roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections, awareness campaigns at schools and community outreach programmes at churches were conducted across the province. The weekly operations saw 444 suspects arrested for dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, robbery, murder, rape, assault GBH, assault common, burglaries at residential and businesses, theft off or from motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and illegal migrants. This includes the arrest of 181 daily wanted suspects traced and apprehended by detectives for serious crimes including murder, rape, assault GBH and illegal possession of firearms. Vehicle checkpoints as well as roadblocks were conducted across the province. (83) premises were searched, (2775) vehicles and (5957) persons were stopped and searched. Compliance inspections were executed at second-hand dealers and liquor premises, formal and informal businesses, mines and farms. This resulted in the closure of 19 unlicensed liquor premises. During the operations the police confiscated copper cables, dangerous weapons, firearms and ammunition and thousands of litres of alcoholic beverages, concoctions, drugs and money believed to be the proceeds of crime.
In recognition of women’s month, the police will reinforce efforts to address crimes committed against women, namely domestic violence, rape and assault to mention a few. Victims are urged to break the silence and not to protect perpetrators who commit these heinous crimes. If you see something, say something.
