Media Statement LIBODE – Efforts by OR Tambo District police in the fight against hijackings resulted to an arrest of three suspects (17-27 years old) and recovery of a hijacked courier vehicle in Libode – Mhlabeni forest on yesterday, 01 August 2024. Police report confirm that the Toyota Hilux courier bakkie was from Mthatha to Ngqeleni, and whilst close to Lujecweni locality, a silver grey polo with no registration plates blocked its way with three occupants, hijacking it. It was driven towards Libode next to Mhlabeni forest where it was stripped. A passerby became suspicious and alerted Libode police who swiftly rushed to the scene being backed up by Mthatha K9 members. Three suspects were arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen /hijacked vehicle with one suspect having an added charge of possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunition. The silver grey polo used in the commission of crime was impounded / confiscated.
OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Pumzile Cetyana applauded his members for their hardworking and dedication in swiftly apprehending the suspects.
