Media Statement KIMBERLEY – As Women’s Month celebrations kicked off, a life sentence was handed down to Thato Nchaegae (23) for raping a 19-year-old woman in Gamosepa Village, Mothibistad. The Mothibistad Regional Court heard that on 04 July 2019 at approximately 19:00 the accused and a male friend forcefully entered the backroom where the victim was sleeping and took turns raping her. They fled the scene when a family member entered the room. Both accused were arrested two days later in the same village. Ncheagae pleaded guilty to the rape and was handed a life sentence on 31 July 2024. The trial of the second accused is still ongoing.
The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended Detective Constable Tholakele Majola of the Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for her continued dedication to the case and ensured that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that justice is served, especially as we are celebrating Women’s Month during August.
