Media Statement JOE GQABI – Members’ continued efforts to eradicate the proliferation of unlicensed firearms yielded good success in Rhodes. Members from the Khowa (Elliot) K9 unit, together with the Barkly East and Rhodes Detectives, operationalized positive information and traveled to Nqanqarhu (Maclear). At TV Park locality, an identified house was searched, and an unlicensed firearm was found on the ceiling of the house. On investigation, it was discovered that the firearm was stolen in a housebreaking that occurred at Rhodes at the beginning of last month (July). The 34-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He will appear tomorrow in the Barkly East magistrate court tomorrow 02 August 2024.
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem commended the combined team that swiftly reacted on the information and recovered the firearm before it could be utilized on criminal activities,
