Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crimes Court convicted and sentenced (25) Jean Pierre Van Niekerk on fraud charges. The accused first appeared on Thursday, 21 December 2023 after being arrested by Hawks Serious Commercial Crime members for fraud alternative theft. Between July 2022 and March 2023,Van Niekerk who was employed by Northern Cape Cricket Union as a Financial Manager misappropriated funds belonging to the employer. Payments that were due to service providers were deposited to his personal bank account. The entity suffered an actual of R424 071.55. On Wednesday, 31 July 2024, the court sentenced Van Niekerk to (4) years direct imprisonment on count 1 to 40 of fraud. Count 41 to 80, the accused was sentenced to (12) months imprisonment wholly suspended for (5) years on condition that the accused is not found guilty on the same offense during suspension period. The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
