NORTHERN CAPE – The attentiveness of Olifantshoek SAPS B-Relief members led to the arrest of two alleged poachers after they were found in possession of endangered plant species in Olifantshoek. On Tuesday, 30 July 2024, at about 05:00, the police were conducting patrols when they spotted a suspicious looking Toyota Quantum. The taxi was stopped and searched, and police found a substantial amount of endangered plants stashed inside the vehicle. The male suspects, aged 37 and 45 years old, were charged for contravening the National Environmental Biodiversity Act 10/2004 and will appear in the Kathu Magistrates’ Court. The case docket will be handed over to the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Directorate for Priority Investigations(DPCI) for further investigation.
