Media Statement POLOKWANE – The SAPS Corporate Communication in Limpopo continues to foster strong community relations and raise awareness on critical issues affecting our society. On Friday, 26 July 2024, the member of Provincial Media Center Sergeant Maphure Manamela conducted live interview with Mokopane Community Radio to engage with the public and discuss a range of important topics. Sergeant Manamela was joined by SAPS Mokopane Crime Prevention Unit Commander, Captain Catherine Sithole during the morning drive show “Legae Laka” hosted by Seipati Malebatjie Together, they addressed key concerns such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV), mob justice, hitchhiking, drug abuse, and partnership policing.During the radio segment, the SAPS representatives highlighted the importance of community involvement in tackling these issues and shared valuable information on how residents can contribute to creating a safer environment. The discussion emphasized the need for a united approach in preventing crime and supporting victims. Sergeant Manamela encouraged community members to stay informed, report any suspicious activities, and support local crime prevention initiatives. Following the radio engagement, the duo joined other SAPS officers during a roadblock coupled with outreach program initiative held along the R581 towards Zebediela alongside traffic officers, CPF members, YCOP volunteers and Private Security Officers. This included distributing informational pamphlets, engaging with motorists and passengers , and providing advice on crime prevention strategies. Motorists were sensitised about spike robberies whereas the passengers were cautioned about crimes emanating from hitchhiking, among other issues.
Sergeant Manamela further sensitized the members conducting the roadblock about the above-mentioned key messages that they should spread during their outreach program initiatives.
