Media Statement ZF MGCAWU DISTRICT – Operation Shanela activities aimed at addressing illegal gambling, trading in liquor and non-compliant Second Hand Goods dealers, and motorists yielded success in Upington. The operation was conducted on Thursday, 25 July 2024, comprising of members from Upington SAPS, Border Police, POP and K9 Units as well as Municipal Traffic. Compliance inspections were conducted at the taxi-plaza and second-hand goods stores. Taxis drivers where issued with fines for traffic violations amounting to R3400.00 and R1200.00 illegal gambling fines were issued. The members continued to stamp their authority at a residence that is believed to be illegally dealing in liquor and dagga. Liquor and dagga with an estimated street value of R70 150.00 were found on the premises. They confiscated liquor to the value of R7176.15, and a 29-year-old female was arrested. The police will continue with robust actions to prevent, combat and investigate crime. Ends
