Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The vigilant and swift response by the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit led to the arrest of five suspects, aged between 36 and 51 years, in Barkly West during the early hours of Monday morning. Members of Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation team on Monday, 22 July 2024 at 00:10, received information from the E2 security service about a white Mazda Bakkie that is suspected to be involved in business and house breaking incidents in Fauresmith in the Free State. The occupants were on their way from Postmasburg/Danielskuil en route to Kimberley. The team of detectives operationlised the information, spotted the vehicle and tactically approached the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and searched close to the Police station in Barkly West. Five males were found inside the bakkie with house breaking implements, including grinders, an electric extension, a bolt cutter, zinc cutter, crowbar, grinder blades and pliers.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the collaboration between the private security company and the police in the fight against crime and effecting the arrest. And further stated that the police in the Northern Cape will not allow criminals from outside the province to operate in our territory.
