Media Statement GQEBERHA – Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the investigating officer of SAPS New Brighton in expediting the arrest of one suspect allegedly involved in the murder of Marlene Prinsloo who was fatally wounded and her tow truck driver boyfriend injured on Saturday, 22 June 2024, in New Brighton. On abovementioned date, at about 01:49, the couple were seated in their tow truck at Kings Beach when they were approached by a man who informed them that he needed assistance as his Toyota Corolla got stuck in the sea sand and he needed it to be towed out. The tow truck driver assisted the man after they agreed on payment. After indicating to the couple that he had no cash on him, the couple followed him to New Brighton for the money. Another man and two females accompanied the driver of the Toyota Corolla. When they approached Shiya Kulati Street, the driver of the Toyota Corolla turned into Mtiya Street and stopped the vehicle. The tow truck driver stopped, upon enquiring about payment, a shot was fired at the driver, and his passenger was injured. The tow-truck driver sped off and drove to a private hospital in Korsten where it was established that Marlene Prinsloo, aged 27 years old had already passed away and the driver was admitted for further treatment. As the investigation continued, a 34 year old suspect was arrested on Friday, 19 Jule 2024, at a house in Joe Slovo. The suspect is detained on charges of murder and attempted murder. The investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are imminent.
The suspect will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate court on Monday, 22 July 2024.
