WESTERN CAPE – A 36-year-old man found himself behind bars following his arrest after an unlicensed firearm was found at his residence at Zone 8 in Thembalethu, George. On Saturday, 20 July 2024 at about 23:00, Garden Route Crime Combatting Team and Crime Intelligence members conducted an intelligence driven operation and pounced on the residence. The members proceeded with a search of the premises when they found a handgun with ammunition hidden amongst bedding in a room. Police confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol and 14 rounds. The occupant of the premises was unable to produce a license or account for his possession, and was subsequently arrested. The suspect remains in police custody. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrates’ court on Monday, 22 July 2024 on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Western Cape police management applauded the team for their vigilance to remove the items that threaten the safety of the public from the streets. Ends
