POLOKWANE – Three suspects apprehended in connection with a murder and attempted murder incident that was committed at Seshego Zone 3 on 12 October 2023 at about 21:00 have appeared before the Seshego Magistrate court on Thursday 18 July 2024. Alpheus Tsitsa Mathekga (33), Thabiso Lax Malebana (41) and Mabu Paul Mailula (44) were remanded in police custody and the matter was postponed to 26 July 2024 for bail application and further police investigations. Two suspects were apprehended on Tuesday 16 July 2024, following joint investigations conducted by the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Provincial Tracking Team and a local private security and Investigation company. The third suspect was in police custody in connection with another separate murder case. On the fateful day of the incident, a 37-year-old businessman, Pilane Meela and 30-year-old friend were standing on the street of his residence when they were approached by a white Toyota Quantum minibus without registration numbers. The occupants of the minibus suddenly opened fire at the two male victims and immediately fled the scene afterward. Pilane Meela succumbed to gunshot wounds at the scene but a 30-year-old friend was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment and later discharged from the facility. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Seshego police station and later transferred to the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit together with Provincial Tracking Team for further investigations. Following intensive investigations, the suspects were nabbed at separate locations and a Toyota Quantum minibus which was utilized in the commission of the crime was also seized during the arrest. The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police investigations are continuing. Ends
