POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Hlogotlou under Sekhukhune District have on Monday 15 July 2024 arrested a 32-year-old male suspect in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old male victim alleged to be a boyfriend of his sister. It is reported that on 07 July 2024 at about 04:00, the deceased had an argument with the suspect over a cellphone belonging to his girlfriend at Silahliwe village, Monsterlus. A 30-year-old victim wanted to take the cellphone of his girlfriend by force but her brother declined and that resulted in a physical fight over the cellphone. During the fight, the deceased hit the suspect with an empty beer bottle on the head and the suspect retaliated and stabbed the 30-year-old victim with a sharp object on the forehead and he fell down and became unconscious. The two males were rushed to a local clinic and the 30-year-old was immediately transferred to Polokwane Provincial hospital for further medical attention. The suspect was treated at the clinic and later discharged to go home. On Monday 15 July 2024 at about 09:00, police were informed that the 30-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries while admitted in hospital. An immediate manhunt of the suspect was launched and subsequently led to his arrest the same day while he was working at a construction site at Silahliwe village. The suspect is expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate court on Wednesday 17 July 2024 facing a charge of murder. Police investigations are continuing. Ends
