POLOKWANE – A 36-year-old male suspect was apprehended by the members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit in connection with the robbery with firearm, conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted murder incident committed on 19 January 2024 at Sephaku village under Hlogotlou policing area. A 25-year-old male victim together with his fiancé withdrew more than one hundred and eighty thousand rand in cash from the bank in Groblersdal town and departed to Hlogotlou policing area intending to pay his employees. The couple was traveling in a silver VW Polo motor vehicle when they were followed by a white Toyota Quantum minibus with unknown suspects. The minibus speedily passed the duo at high speed and dropped two unknown male suspects at a speed hump along Sephaku village and left. The victim approached a speed hump and unexpectedly, two male suspects wearing masks emerged from the right side in possession of firearms and started firing multiple shots at the couple’s motor vehicle that eventually stopped. The suspects demanded money from a 25-year-old male victim who complied and handed it over to them together with a laptop and two cellphones. Afterwards, the two male suspects fled the scene on foot to an open field at Sephaku village. During the incident, a 25-year-old male victim sustained gunshot wounds on the lower body but his fiancé was not harmed and was rushed to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. The incident was reported at the local police and the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit was immediately handed the matter for further investigations. On Friday 12 July 2024, the members managed to seize a white Toyota Quantum minibus that was used in the commission of the crime while parked with no occupants at Moratiwa Complex under Hlogotlou precinct. The investigations continued until one male suspect aged 36 was subsequently nabbed while at his residence at Motsephiri village under Hlogotlou policing area on Monday 15 July 2024 at about 08:00. He appeared at Nebo Magistrate court on Tuesday 16 July 2024 facing a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with a firearm and attempted murder. The suspect was remanded in police custody and will make his second appearance next week on Thursday 25 July 2024 for formal bail application and further police investigations.
