BRONVILLE – There was a poster making rounds on social media written “Masimong mine shutdown, fight for employment” dated 15 July 2024 at 03:00. Members of Welkom Public Order Policing were deployed to monitor the Bronville Cluster Shutdown. They were at Masimong mine intersection when a group of about fifty people never took heed to the audible instruction of a Police officer to disperse and remove stones in the road and burning tyres. Two stun grenades were used to disperse the violent residents, leading to the arrest of five males aged between 21 and 47. The suspects are facing Public Violence and Damage to essential infrastructure charges. The situation is currently under control and barricades of burning tyres and stones are removed and the tarred road is accessible to road users. Ends
