Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – Six suspects aged between 25 and 47 are to appear before the Gqeberha New Law court on 15 July 2024 for allegations of damage to essential infrastructure and possession of stolen property. The suspects were arrested by the Gqeberha Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Combined Private Investigators (CPI), Kinkelbos SAPS Vispol members on Friday, 12 July 2024. It is alleged that on 12 July 2024, the joint team received information about the vehicle that was suspected to have been loaded with copper cables. The said vehicle was reportedly travelling towards Gqeberha. The police followed the information where a white Chevrolet Utility bakkie was spotted at Colchester which was stopped and then searched. Upon searching it, the team recovered approximately three hundred (300) kilograms of Telkom copper cables with the estimated street value of R600 000. Consequently, that led to the arrest of six (6) suspects that were inside the vehicle. All the items found were seized including the vehicle which was used as instrumentality in the commission of the crime for further investigation. All six (6) suspects are to appear before the Gqeberha New Law court on 15 July 2024. The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Obed Ngwenya appreciated the implausible efforts by joint team for tracing the suspect and bringing them to book. Ends
