Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The mandate of police members to create a safe and secure environment in all communities yielded positive results when they arrested several suspects in Mitchells Plain area on Friday, 12 July 2024. The members attached to Mitchells Plain SAPS received information about a person selling drugs at a premises in Rambler Street, Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain. The information was operationalised and upon searching the house, members recovered 120 heroin straws, an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime, and various assorted rounds of ammunition. A 24-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of illegal possession of ammunition and dealing in heroin. In an unrelated matter Mitchells Plain SAPS members were busy with stop and search operations in Alpine Street, Beacon Valley, a hotspot area for robberies, when they noticed two suspicious looking males walking. When the two men noticed the police they started to run and one male gave the other an unknown object whilst they were running. The members gave chase and saw the suspect disposing of a firearm. Both suspects, aged 39 and 45, were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The .38 special revolver without a serial number and five rounds of ammunition were booked in as exhibit. Mitchells Plain SAPS members were conducting liquor operations at a premises in Kringhout Street, Eastridge, and Mitchells Plain and found the suspect selling liquor illegally. A 58-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in liquor without license. A total of 240 750 ml black label beers, 10 x 5L white Johannesburg wine, five x 5L sweet Rosè wine and 20 crates were handed in as exhibits. All the suspects will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates court on Monday, 15 July 2024, respectively on their mentioned charges. Ends
