POLOKWANE – Police in Seshego have opened an inquest docket following a tragic incident that occurred on Friday, 05 July 2024 in Seshego zone 2, resulting in the loss of a 58-year-old man due to a fire that broke inside in his residence. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased arrived home in the early hours from a local outlet and attempted to warm himself by starting a fire inside his shack. Tragically, the fire escalated beyond control. The neighbors called the police and the emergency fire brigade, and the man was rescued with severe burn wounds. He was rushed to the local hospital but sadly succumbed to the injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed her heartfelt condolences and stressed the importance of fire safety, emphasising that reckless handling of fire can have devastating consequences as seen in this incident.
“It is crucial for everyone to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
