6 July 2024 – SAFA eThekwini Region have signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the George Ramalu Trust and innovation service provider in the specialty chemicals and food ingredients industry, Azelis.
The sponsorship is worth R1 000 000 over three years and it will be for both the men’s and women’s regional leagues, and the youth regional leagues (U13, U15 and U17).
SAFA eThekwini President Mazwi Mkhize said the sponsorship could be extended beyond the current terms if all the parties are satisfied.
“This is a sponsorship for both men and women. It is a sponsorship that is named after George Ramalu, a well-known football administrator during the days of Southern Natal,” he said.
“It will be known as the George Ramalu Azelis Champions Cup. We are very pleased about this partnership because football, as you know, is sometimes treated as a stepchild. It is very difficult to get sponsorship in football, unlike other sporting codes that have no shortage of sponsorships. We hope those who will be participating will make use of this opportunity and we will make it a point to follow-up on those boys and girls, and men and women in the future.
“As long as we get one or two or three players in our national teams, we will be happy because SAFA, as the custodian of football in this country, must have players coming from our region and also in the PSL.”
Mkhize thanked Azelis MD Boston Moonsamy for the role he has played in securing the agreement.
