Media Statement MPUMALANGA – Kitiki Benny Thobejane (27), was found guilty and convicted by the Witbank Court on Tuesday, 2 July 2024 for fraud. It was reported that on Friday, 7 May 2021, the accused submitted fraudulent documents to obtain vehicle financing. He then bought a vehicle through Westbank under credit installment agreement in terms of sec 92(2) of the National Credit Act for the finance and purchase of Toyota Avanza 2017 model at Witbank Eastval Motors to the amount of R361 962-72. It was further reported that the accused paid one installment and did not honour his further credit agreement. The bank became suspicious and went to report a case at the police station. The matter was transferred to Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. During the investigation it was discovered that the documents that the accused used when purchasing the vehicle was fraudulent. The matter was finalized and submitted to court for decision. On 20 October 2023, J175 was authorized and executed for the accused to appear in Court. The vehicle was seized and handed back to the dealer. He appeared in court on several occasions until he was sentenced on Tuesday, 2 July 2024 as follows: Three years imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted of fraud during the period of suspension.
