Media Statement POLOKWANE – The relentless efforts by the Police in the fight against the smuggling of illicit cigarettes continue to yield positive results, this is following the arrest of two suspects aged between 44 and 52 along the R81 road next to a fuel station, on Sunday, 30 June 2024. Members of Capricorn District Flying Squad tactically approached a silver Toyota Corolla and stopped it along the R81 road next to a fuel station under Sebayeng policing area. This after the information was received that the said vehicle with two suspects, a driver and passenger was transporting illicit cigarettes. Upon searching it, Police found 85 cartons of Remington Gold illicit cigarettes with an estimated street of R100 000-00 (one hundred thousand rands). The suspects aged 44 and 52 were immediately arrested. They are expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate court soon facing charges of transportation and possession of illicit cigarettes.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for accurately responding to the information received, which has led to the arrest of the two suspects.
