Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – Meticulous investigation by the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit paid off when a 38-year-old suspect was traced and arrested in the early hours of Friday morning, 28 June 2024, in Wolmaransstad for the murder of a 74-year-old Akina Mhaba. Initial information indicated that on Saturday, 15 June 2024 at 19:00, Mhaba’s body was discovered by her son, who brought her dinner. He and neighbours forced entry into her house in Chris Hani Section, close to Wolmaransstad. Mhaba was found dead in a pool of blood on her bed. Intensive investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. Moreover police seized blankets, belonging to the deceased at the suspect’s house. The suspect, aged 38, will appear before the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 01 July 2024, on charges of murder, rape and robbery. The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the arrest and congratulated members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery members for their dedication that led to the arrest.
