Media Statement ZWELITSHA – On Thursday, 27 June 2024, the SAPS in the Eastern Cape Province held an early retirement and farewell function for 40 of its members, who are from various components. These members will be retiring on 30 June 2024. The event was held to celebrate their service and bid farewell to them. Maj Gen Xakavu, the Amatole District Commissioner welcomed all the retirees and everyone present together with family members who came to support their very own. During his address the Maj Gen uttered words of gratitude. “It is a great honour to be part of this special day, where our retirees have ran their race to the fullest, it shows integrity when you focus on your own race and your own lane, in that way, you are unable to miss the mark. Today’s event evidently shows that you were running your own race and reached your finishing line”, he concluded. The District Commissioner for BCM, Maj Gen CJ Wright shared his message of support to all the retirees. He noted that, since the arrival of the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen NL Mene, she has been able to put a smile on the faces of those who are retiring by appreciating them and their hard work. He added by saying it gives him pleasure to see that this initiative breeds gratitude as it values and appreciates its own. “Bidding farewell creates mixed emotion because, on the other hand we are losing members with over 30 years of experience. How I wish the experience you have can be transferred or extracted so you can leave it behind. I wish you all the best in your new journey. Luckily for you, you will not be receiving any complaints from us.” he uttered jokingly. The BCM District Commissioner concluded by thanking family members for allowing their partners, parents, and guidance to be devoted to the organisation and to be able to serve the province. “Have a well-deserved rest” said the emotional Maj Gen Wright. The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen NL Mene delivered her keynote address and exclaimed that it is good to appreciate members when they leave, and highlighted that bidding goodbye shows gratefulness which is why she introduced this session as they hardly share their goodbyes. “Goodbyes are only said during official funerals, the Lt Gen stated. During her address the Lt Gen mentioned that police work is challenging and that she gets so excited when she sees members exiting in a good manner. “I stand here to honour you and show gratitude, as I am someone who shows respect regardless of your rank, because I believe we all play a vital role in the service as we are driven by the same objective” added the Provincial Commissioner. This has been a race you have finished with pride, whilst I am on an appreciation mode, allow me to appreciate Capt Booth from the New Vehicle Component for his excellent service and command, as he was able to mitigate the act of corruption in the service especially in that unit. Lt. Gen Mene also highlighted that Col Ncedani stood out in his duties through loyalty and perseverance, he has never complained even on the late hours of the evening on his off days. The Provincial Commissioner said she would reach out to him for assistance. She thanked him for following his name. “I would like to congratulate all the retirees, God carried you through and I believe when the time has come for you to retire, you must retire and please note that money does not grow on trees, take care of your money and do not fall for any scams, I would advise you to join the Eastern Cape retirement group to keep you active,” the Lt Gen concluded. Col Ncedani attached at Provincial Facility Management replied on behalf of retirees. He expressed his gratefulness to his fellow retirees and said his heart is full of mixed emotions. As he was closing his incredible chapter. He thanked the SAPS family for their unwavering support, reflecting on his years of service. He said that as retirees, they are grateful that they carried through all these years and thanked his colleagues and everyone who have played a role in service delivery. Corporate Communication, Col Mndi handed over certificates to the retirees as a token of appreciation for their hard work and untainted record of their service. The Chris Hani District Commissioner, Maj Gen Adolph, proudly conveyed his vote of thanks and motivated the retirees by emphasizing on taking care of their money, as Lt Gen Mene said. Ends
