Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Makhado Regional Court in Vhembe District sentenced a 42-year-old man to life imprisonment for assault GBH, kidnapping and rape. The conviction and sentencing was meted out on Wednesday 26 June 2024. The court heard that on 07 May 2023, the accused met the victim during the day at Magau village, Tshilwavhusiku policing area and forced her to accompany him to his home. It was further noted that when the victim refused, he then attacked the victim with a hammer on the head and they walked to his residence where he raped her repeatedly. The woman who was bleeding excessively was only released the following day. She was taken to the hospital for medical attention. The woman who had a protection order against the accused, her ex-boyfriend, reported the matter to the Police at Tshilwavhusiku, and the docket was transferred to Makhado FCS for further investigations. The docket was assigned to Warrant Officer Lufuno Mutheiwana, who did a meticulous investigation by ensuring that the suspect who had been on the run, was tracked down and apprehended a week after the incident. The accused remained in the Police custody after he applied on numerous occasions for bail, which was opposed by the investigating officer.
