Suspect behind bars for the illegal possession of a firearm

WESTERN CAPE – Strand SAPS members remain resolute and continue to safeguard their communities through the confiscation of firearms and the subsequent arrest of those who are illegally in possession thereof.

On Saturday, 22 June 2024 at about 09:45, the members were performing crime combatting patrols and stop and searches along 5th Street in Rusthof, Strand when they came across a group of suspicious men who gathered in the street. The members searched the group and found a black 9mm pistol in possession of one of the men who was subsequently arrested. The members also confiscated the firearm which will be send for ballistic tests to determine whether it was used in the commission in any crime.

The adult male is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates; court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm on Monday, 24 June 2024.
