AMATHOLE DISTRICT – The District Police members embarked on Operation Shanela last night, focusing on fighting crime and ensuring perpetrators are behind bars at Willowvalle. Police were up on their toes in pushing their mandate of ensuring the safety and secure environment for all. They partake in patrolling the CBD, hotspot villages around Willowvalle by doing stop and search and vehicle checking points (VCP). The suspects aged between 33 and 48 were arrested on crimes ranging from possession of unlicensed firearm, selling liquor without a license, possession of dagga, and drunken driving. As part of the crime prevention strategy, they also confiscated dangerous weapons to prevent any crime that was committed. All these suspects will appear at Willowvalle Magistrate Court on Monday, 24 June 2024. The District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for their dedication in fighting crime and that they ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice. “We are going to continue with multidisciplinary operations by doing stop and search, foot patrols, and roadblocks to ensure that our citizens are safe and secure,” he added.
