Media Statement PHUTHADITJHABA – The Phuthaditjhaba Detectives have arrested two men and their partners for alleged kidnapping of 20-year-old Tumo Hlongwane from Mabolela Village in Qwaqwa. The victim was reportedly last seen on Sunday, 16 June 2024, by his friend when walking at Cairo section of Phuthaditjhaba at about 00:30 on their way back home. It’s alleged that on 16 June 2024 at about 00:30 the two friends, Tumo Hlongwane (20) and Morena Mariri (27), both from Mabolela Village, were walking on foot near Cairo section of Phuthaditjhaba from local tavern in the area going back home. Suddenly, they were approached by a bakkie occupied by unknown people however, two occupants were known to them. They stopped and pulled Tumo in the bakkie, accused him of playing inside the road, and drove away with him. Since then, Tumo hasn’t been seen since. His whereabouts are still unknown yet. The Phuthaditjhaba Detectives went out upon receiving this case to search for possible suspects and arrested two women with their husbands. The remaining suspects are still being sought. Morena Mariri was also arrested as he had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest against him for housebreaking and theft. The four have been charged and will appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday 21 June 2024, facing a charge of kidnapping.
