Media Statement NGAKA MODIRI MOLEMA DISTRICT – In conjunction with Lomanyaneng police station, the Roman Catholic Church’ St Alberton, held a progressive activity on Sunday, 16 June 2024, at Lotlhakane Village, outside Mahikeng. The activity was held to commemorate and allow the young people to reflect on Youth Day. As part of the day’s activities, the station’s Visible Policing and Support Services Commanders; Captains Sedumedi and Jantjie participated in the programme by addressing the youth about crime in the policing area. The Commanders sensitised the youth about assault cases, which in most instances, are generated through the abuse of liquor especially by young people. The youth were as a result, urged to refrain from substance abuse, but to take part in activities meant to build their future. Different speakers including young people ascended the podium to address issues that affect them and possible solutions thereof. The most common and disturbing issues that were cited included unemployment, crime and poverty. In his address, the main speaker; Professor Leepile Sehularo from the Nursing Faculty of Mahikeng campus of North West University, looked into all challenges raised, from an academic perspective. He went on to talk about the root causes. The Professor further challenged the youth to aim high and never to lose hope, but to put God first. He read from Luke 1 verse 37 which says, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible”. Additionally, the Professor requested the youth to focus and turn a blind eye on things that will derail them. The programme continued with Father Sekao reading from Matthew 8 verse 21-23, then gave a meaning to the text. To conclude the day, the youth partook in various sporting activities and poems. The participants and youth in general were cheered by parents who came in numbers to support the day, which also took place on Father’s Day. Ends
