Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police at Tubatse, in Sekhukhune District, arrested a 34-year-old suspect for attempted murder and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend aged 27, in an incident that took place between Praktiseer and Makofane, on Tuesday, 11 June 2024 at around 07:00. According to information, the victim was at her residence preparing to work when the suspect arrived, driving in a white Toyota bakkie. He invited her to drive with him to Makofane village, where he resides. They drove together on condition that the suspect must drop her off at Praktiseer as she was going to work. It is alleged that the suspect drove past Praktiseer and took a route going to Mabocha village. A heated argument ensued, and in the process, the driver, who is the suspect, threatened to kill the victim. He allegdly opened the door of the moving vehicle and pushed the victim out of the vehicle, and left her. Apparently, he noticed that the victim was able to move and requesting assistance from other motorists. It is reported the suspect reversed the vehicle and knocked the victim while on the ground, and put her at the back of the bakkie. The victim seemingly after some time, she gained consciousness and found herself at the back of the suspect’s bakkie at Ga-Makofane, and later, she was admitted to the hospital. A case of attempted murder and kidnapping is under Police investigations. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has denounced the incident and encouraged victims and witnesses of Gender-based violence and femicide to report cases to the Police. The suspect will appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 13 June 2024.
