Media Statement EDEN CLUSTER – Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team members arrested a 52-year-old man who is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm. On Friday, 07 June 2024 at about 22:40 the members operationalised information when they searched a house at Gentswana Drive, Kwanonqaba at Mossel Bay. A search of the residence ensued when the members found a .38 Special revolver inside. The occupant of the premises was unable to account for his possession thereof and he was arrested. The suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, 10 June 2024. Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was taken into custody early this morning, at about 00:30, on a charge of possession of an imitation firearm. Thembalethu police members responded to a domestic violence dispute where the man threatened the victim with the imitation firearm. The police confiscated the item and arrested the man. The suspect remain s in police custody and will appear in court once charged. Western Cape police management commended the members for removing the unlicensed firearm from the streets. Unlicensed firearms in the hands of criminals pose a major threat to society. The police are committed to rid communities of items that threatens the safety of the public and confiscation is in line with the policing approach of the province. Ends
