Media Statement KESTELL – The Kestell police have arrested the 25-year-old man from Tlholong near Kestell after the local clinic discovered that the two-year-old boy was bruised all-over the body and declared dead by paramedics, police were immediately informed. It is alleged that on 5 June 2024 at about 20:00 the boyfriend noticed that the toddler soiled himself and allegedly assaulted him with a stick, kicked and placed him inside the basin filled with cold water. On 6 June 2024 at about 12:30 the suspect (boyfriend) and girlfriend(21) together with another family member, took toddler to the local clinic for further medical treatment. The paramedics and police were summoned to the clinic where the toddler was declared dead. A case of murder was opened. The 25-year-old boyfriend was arrested and expected to appear before the Kestell Magistrate Court on Monday, 10 June 2024, facing a charge of murder. The incident took place during the massive awareness campaigns of Child Protection Week aimed at addressing child abuse domestically and within our society. As parents, we should take responsibility for protecting our children and report any form of abuse to local authorities.
