Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The commitment of police members to keep their communities safe, resulted in the arrest of two suspects when they were found in possession firearms and ammunition without a valid permit on Thursday 06 June 2024 by police members attached to Operation Restore. Police members deployed in Mfuleni were busy with crime combatting activities when they saw a Toyota Hilux driving recklessly. The members gave chase and forced the driver to stop. They searched the vehicle and confiscated a .38 Special Smith and Wesson revolver with ammunition. The driver could not produce a valid license to be in possession of the firearm. The 42 year old man was detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Meanwhile the deployment posted in Kraaifontein pursued information and proceeded to an identified address in Mkholokoto Street in Wallacedene. The police members entered the premises and ensued with a search. The search proved successful when they confiscated a Beretta 9mm pistol with ammunition and detained a 32-year-old man on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
