WESTERN CAPE – Vital information, provided by members of the community attributed to the arrests of two suspected gang members who were found in possession of firearms and ammunition, unlawfully, on Tuesday, 04 June 2024 in Somerset West and Atlantis, respectively. Atlantis police officers were busy with patrols in Protea Park when they responded to information indicating that a suspect was unlawfully in possession of a firearm. In Lenaria Street, the members saw the person who fitted the description. They approached the man, searched him during which they discovered and confiscated a pistol with ammunition found on his person. They detained the 19-year-old man on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention police members attached to Somerset West Crime Prevention unit were busy with crime intelligence gathering, following a robbery which occurred in Dirkie Uys Street earlier the day. They located the suspect after visiting various addresses, who pointed out the location of the stolen firearm and ammunition. They detained the 32-year-old man on a charge of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis and Somerset West Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges. End
