Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested for rape case, which occurred at Phaphazela Village in Malamulele policing area on 24 May 2024 at around 20:40. His arrest is subsequent to an incident where the victim aged 17 was with suspect and another unknown man to her, coming from a local tavern going home at Phaphazela village. They arrived at the suspect’s residence, and the victim and suspect entered inside the house and left an unknown man behind. The suspect started to touch her, threatened to assault her, and thereafter raped her in the process. The victim went home and reported the incident to the Police on Tuesday, 04 June 2024. A rape case was registered and transferred to Malamulele SAPS, Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigations. The suspect was successfully located and arrested on Tuesday, 04 June 2024, at around 15:15 in Phaphazela village. He is expected to appear before Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 06 June 2014, facing a rape charge.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest. She also condemned the rape incident and urged parents and guardians to monitor closely the movement and behavior of their children on a daily basis.
