Media Statement MQANDULI – Six suspects aged between 24 and 51 were arrested at Mavundleni locality, Qhingqolo A/A on Tuesday, 28 May and in the early hours of today, 29 May 2024 from 23h00 up to 03:00 on charges of contravention of the Electoral act. It is alleged that on Sunday, 26 May 2024 at about 16:00, a voting station in the form of a tent was destroyed by alleged suspects complaining of service delivery in the area. A case was opened to that effect and on Monday, 27 May 2024, the same group threatened IEC officials to close the station as no one would vote. On Tuesday, 28 May 2024, the same group mobilized road blockage, burning tyres, preventing any movement in the area. OR TAMBO District detective election team assisted by Public Order Policing members conducted an operation on Tuesday, 27 May 2024 and arrested six suspects charged for contravention of Electoral Act. They have been detained at Mqanduli police station and will appear at the Mqanduli Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 01 June 2024. Ends
