Media Statement KIMBERLEY – SAPS throughout the province, joined by the Community Police Forums (CPF’s), the Youth Crime Prevention Desks and Community in Blue Patrollers in conjunction with the Department of Education, School Governing Bodies (SGB’s) and the Department of Correctional Services embarked on Child Protection Week Programmes that commenced on Monday, 20 May 2024 until Friday, 24 May 2024, under the theme, “Protecting South African Children, 30 years on”. The police and relevant stakeholders advocated the rights of children as articulated in the Children’s Act of 2005, mobilising all sectors of society to ensure the care and protection of children. Numerous events across the province were activated at schools and Early Childhood Centres in all districts. Stakeholders addressed the learners and young children on general discipline, bullying at school, cyber bullying, online dating, substance abuse, trafficking of children, child pornography and encouraged the youth to participate in crime prevention initiatives. The learners were also presented with colouring books and information booklets stipulating the rights of children. Sporting events were hosted to encourage the youth participate in community engagements and refrain from committing crime. The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola stated that the police will continue to protect children during Child Protection week and beyond. Ends
