Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Department of Home Affairs have on 23 May 2024 arrested Success Egabor (41) for being in the country illegally and she was later handed over to the Hawks as she was also wanted for allegations of trafficking in persons. The Hawks have previously arrested Nontobeko Mathunjwa (35) and Precious Abudu (34) who were denied bail by the George Magistrates’ Court on this matter and it was postponed to 10 June 2024 for further investigation. The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in George began with intensive efforts to trace the third suspect who was reported to be residing in Cape Town. On 23 May 2024 information was received from a member of the Department of Home Affairs in Strand that they have arrested a foreign national who was in the country illegally. When the Department of Home Affairs shared the information of the arrested person with the Hawks, it was established that it was the suspect that was sought. Egabor appeared at George Magistrates’ Court on 24 May 2024 and the matter is postponed to 10 June 2024 to join her other two co-accused. The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Makgato lauded the effective co-operation between the two departments and emphasized the importance of information sharing that led to this arrest which, in turn, makes the job easy.
