After a rollercoaster stint on The Ultimatum SA, contestant Nkateko Mahange has broken his silence on his relationship status with his partner and baby mama Khanya Nqolase.
The controversial couple recently appeared on the Netflix reality show, which aired its reunion special on Friday, 24 May.
In a statement, Nkateko confirmed that he had split from Khanya after a “physical altercation.”
The reality TV star claimed he was committed to co-parenting their son with the aid of the legal system.
NKATEKO CONFIRMS SPLIT FROM PARTNER
During Friday’s The Ultimatum SA reunion episode, Nkateko and Khanya claimed that they were working on their relationship through therapy and self-introspection.
The first season of the reality TV show saw the couple go their separate ways in the final episode after Nkateko failed to propose to his long-term girlfriend, who had issued an ultimatum to him.
However, the couple reconciled after filming and, to their surprise, found out that they were expecting a baby together.
With season one of The Ultimatum SA officially wrapping up, the Johannesburg sales manager issued an urgent statement about their relationship status.
He shared on his Instagram account: “I’m finally able to share with you an update on what’s been really happening between Khanya and I shortly after shooting the reunion, thanks to the confidentiality agreement that required me to wait.
“After shooting The Ultimatum SA in March 2023, we discovered Khanya was pregnant, even though we had already decided to separate around April of 2023.
“I proposed a promise ring at the time to prioritize therapy for both of us, given the emotional and mental challenges we faced before, during, and after the show. Shortly after shooting the reunion, Khanya and I agreed that even though we are not together anymore, what matters more is finalising matters regarding [baby] Q.
“Throughout most of the pregnancy, we focused on prioritising therapy to address unresolved issues and ensure we were emotionally prepared for Q’s arrival. We were adamant about not reuniting solely for the sake of our child understanding the importance of healing as individuals.
“Watching the series a day before the shooting of the reunion, more than a month ago, made us realize even more that there were deeper issues we needed to address within ourselves. We recognized that we also may have fueled a trauma bond, fluctuating between lovers, friendship, and enmity, often feeling more like ourselves when apart”.
Nkateko then confirmed that he and Khanya had ended their relationship for good.
He continued: “Following a recent altercation, legal measures were necessary to facilitate potential co-parenting. We’re relying on faith, therapy, and personal growth to overcome what we’ve been through”.
In the comment section, Nkateko liked messages about him ending the “toxic relationship.”
He responded to one follower: “I’ll be fine. God and my family have helped me heal and move on with my life. I am not looking back for anyone or anything.”
‘THE ULTIMATUM SA’ VIEWERS LABEL KHANYA A ‘BULLY’
Meanwhile, viewers of The Ultimatum SA are calling out Netflix and host Salamina Mosese for not holding Khanya accountable for her actions during the show.
On the X platform, many viewers labelled the woman a “bully” after her comments to partner Nkateko and the woman he had coupled with, Sizakele Dlamini.
@kaki_kuria_: “Can we all just admit that Khanya wasn’t held accountable for her bullying on The Ultimatum SA?”
@BeeTebo_Nengi: “This reunion needed a different host. We needed someone that could hold the cast accountable, especially Khanya.”
@fine_nal: “Where’s the accountability? Khanya wasn’t ‘outspoken;… she was a complete bully! And this reunion just enabled her to continue in her toxicity!”
During one heated episode of the show, Khanya had verbally abused and body-shamed Siza after a confrontation.
Meanwhile, a woman named Busiswe Stimele even claimed that Khanya had been her childhood bully.
The woman said of the reality TV star: “She is overwhelming, she’s rude, she’s mean, demeaning, she says derogatory things and she is not remorseful… If she does not get her way, she will make everyone’s life a living hell.”
