Media Statement ELDORADO PARK – On Friday 10 May 2024 at approximately 01:50, Eldorado Park SAPS members were conducting Operation Shanela in Eldorado Park and whilst busy performing their duties, they noticed a silver BMW 1 series without a registration number with two occupants. The vehicle was immediately stopped by the members and upon a search of the vehicle, a firearm and magazine with live rounds of ammunition were found in the driver’s possession. When asked to produce the license for the firearm, the driver informed the Police Officers that he left it at home, he was then accompanied home to verify the firearm license however, upon arrival at his home he again failed to produce the license but tried tricks of stalling and trying to run away. He was then arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition for further investigation. The firearm was tested in the system and it was established that it belongs to someone in Turfontein and was not reported stolen. Operation Shanela is in line with the station crime pattern analysis and as such, it is yielding successful results. The station will push until Eldorado Park is a gun free zone and gangsterism is being dealt with.
