Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 29-year-old male suspect who is also a foreign national is expected to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate Court soon in connection with a rape of a 10 year-old girl at a rental residence in Nkowankowa location. The horrendous incident happened on Friday, 10 May 2024. Preliminary investigations indicated that the minor victim believed to be a foreign national as well, was allegedly raped by a 29-year-old male suspect while at their separate rental rooms occupied in the same premises. The incident was reportedly witnessed by the children who were playing inside the yard and informed their parents. Eventually, the victim’s guardian was alerted about the rape ordeal and she was taken to a local hospital for examination. The medical personnel confirmed that the child was raped and the incident was immediately reported to the police on Saturday 11 May 2024. A rape case was opened and massive manhunt of the suspect was activated resulting to his apprehension on Sunday, 12 April 2024 in Ritavi policing area.
Police investigations are continuing.
