Media Statement GAUTENG – Themba Ndaba (51), appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 08 May 2024, for theft of funds after he duped the victim into believing that the funds were an investment into a film production Shaka Zulu. Ndaba claimed to run a film production company named Teddy Bear Pictures when he met the victim on 21 October 2023 at Ridgeway, South of Johannesburg. He stated that his entity was looking for individuals or companies that could provide refreshments to the crew and cast for the duration of the filming. In return, Ndaba reportedly needed R250 000 upfront payment in order for the interested investor to secure the prospect. Furthermore, the investor was to get a guaranteed R 3.5 million when the project was complete, the funds were reportedly going to be recouped from United State of America (USA) sponsors who were reportedly funding the whole project. The victim paid an amount of two hundred thousand into the Ndaba’s bank account and a further fifty thousand in cash. The pair then traveled to KZN to see the venue where the filming was supposed to take place. Following the journey, Ndaba started being inaccessible with lots of excuses. Needless to say, the filming never took place. A case was registered at Bedfordview police station on Monday, 06 May 2024, resulting in the arrest of Ndaba on the same day in Alberton following a Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation. The Court has postponed the case to 30 May 2024, pending further investigation. Ndaba has been granted R5000 bail. Ends
