Media Statement FREE STATE – The Petrus Steyn police have arrested a 54-year-old man from Gauteng Province with a large quantity of cable while patrolling. On 5 May 2024, the police were conducting operations in the early hours of the morning. They came across a suspicious-looking vehicle, a white Volkswagen Caddy with GP registration, which was driving slowly on the construction road R707. Upon seeing the police’s blue lights trying to stop him, the driver accelerated until he joined the R57 and finally stopped at a nearby local filling station. It was discovered that the cables could have been stolen in areas of Bethlehem, Paul Roux and Arlington.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear before the Reitz Magistrate Court on 6 May 2024, facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
