Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Detectives at Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit are investigating cases of rape that took place separately, in which a pregnant woman and a mentally challenged girl were raped. The rape incident where a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her ex-boyfriend, took place on Sunday, 05 May 2024 at approximately 04:30, in Dididi village in Thohoyandou policing area. According to the reports, the duo was at a local tavern when the suspect requested the victim, who is six months pregnant, to accompany him to his residence to change his clothes. Upon arrival, the suspect produced a knife, threatened the woman, and raped her. The suspect thereafter fled the scene. Meanwhile, police are still searching for the suspect who allegedly raped a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl. The incident took place on Saturday, 04 May 2024, at approximately 17:00 in Lunungwi village, Thohoyandou. The known suspect was allegedly caught red-handed by community members while raping the victim in the bushes. The suspect managed to flee from the scene. The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the ongoing incidents of gender-based violence perpetrated against the most vulnerable groups within the communities. She appealed to the community to come forward with information that can assist police in their investigation.
