Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – On Friday, 26 April 2024, the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime court sentenced Dr Kuhlekonke Richman Mkhize (40) and his company, Doctor Care Centre Incorporate for Fraud. During the period of March 2022, there was an audit conducted on Dr Kuhlekonke Richman Mkhize’s Personal income Tax between the period of 2016 to 2018. The outcome of the audit revealed that the accused defrauded South African Revenue Service (SARS) an amount of over R2 million. Income for the aforementioned years were understated and the documents submitted to SARS uncovered that accused did not declare practice income. A case of fraud was reported at Point Police station in Durban. The case docket was allocated to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation for further exploration. During the investigation it was discovered that the accused has a company called Doctor Care Centre Incorporate. The investigation further revealed that there were no records on the SARS System of the IRP5 certificates issued by the entity. Dr Mkhize was arrested and appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced on Friday, 26 April 2024. He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition that he is not convicted of fraud or similar offence during the period of suspension. The condition attached to his sentence is that he pays an amount of over R2 million directly to SARS with an upfront payment of R300 000-00. Doctor Care Centre was sentenced to a fine of R150 000-00 which is wholly suspended for a period of two years. The Kwazulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona Welcomed the sentence and applauded the members for the excellent work. Ends
