Media Statement GAUTENG – On Thursday, 2 May 2024, the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) and Visible Policing (VISPOL) members made significant drug busts in two separate incidents in Westbury and Waterval. During routine patrols along Erick Street, Waterval, the AGU and VISPOL members received information regarding a male individual selling drugs at Bashee Court. Acting swiftly, the SAPS members proceeded to the provided address and found a 26-year-old male at the premises. A thorough search led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of drugs in his possession, including thirty-eight (38) full mandrax tablets, eight (8) halves of mandrax tablets, mandrax powder, and eight (8) ziplock bags containing khat drugs. The suspect was promptly arrested and transported to the nearest police station for detention. In a separate incident earlier on the same day, at approximately 11H00, the AGU members were patrolling the corner of Kretzschmar and Dowling Street in Westbury. They thereafter proceeded to Edward flat where they arrested a 28-year-old male suspect for possessing illegal drugs. The search yielded eleven (11) full mandrax tablets, five (5) halves of mandrax tablets, and seven (7) quarters of mandrax tablets. Both suspects are expected to appear before the respective courts during the course of the week to face the charges against them. Brigadier Maphoto, the AGU Unit Commander, expressed his satisfaction with the successful operations and commended the members for their outstanding performance and dedication. He praised them as role models for other police officials. Brigadier Maphoto also acknowledged the support of the community members in reporting criminal activities in their area, emphasizing the importance of their cooperation in maintaining law and order.
