Media Statement NESLPRUIT – The Police are investigating a case of hijacking after two people were hijacked of their vehicles then kidnapped by their assailants on Wednesday, 01 May 2024 around 17:40. According to information, there was a meeting held outside a certain primary school in Nyongane, outside Hazyview. Thereafter, one of the attendees had a mechanical problem with his car and others were trying to assist him. During the process, three armed suspects emerged out of nowhere and pointed them with firearms. The suspects then forced two victims into the boot of two VW Polo’s then drove away. The incident was immediately reported to the Police and members from Hazyview mobilised their resources where they traced the vehicles. Later that night, the two victims were safely located and the two vehicles were also found abandoned by the suspects. The Police are still in pursuit of the suspects and anyone who knows their whereabouts is urged to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has praised members for their swift response and thankful that the victims as well as their cars were safely found. “We really applaud members for their dedication and commitment in fighting crime. We will continue to remain steadfast in our endeavour to deal decisively with crime. Our search for the suspects continue,” said the General.
