Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – Mogamat Aiman Booley (53), the company director and his business entity appeared before East London Magistrate’s court on 2 May 2024, for allegations of fraud, forgery and uttering. In August 2013, the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlement advertised a tender project to build houses at Buffalo City rural areas. The tender was eventually awarded to Rencor Trading Pty Ltd and Buildnat Development CC was nominated to be a subcontractor to the awarded company. On 26 August 2015, Booley allegedly misrepresented the director of Rencor Trading Pty Ltd with forged letters and false letter head, then instructed the Department to make payment to his company account. Furthermore, he reportedly submitted invoices to induced the Department to pay cash straight to his company. Consequently, this led to the actual prejudice of an amount of over R4.3 million that was reportedly paid in tranches. The matter was later referred to the Hawks for a thorough probe. Booley, a sole director of Buildnat Development CC company, was arrested by the East London Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks the same day of his first court appearance. He was released on R10 000 bail and the matter was remanded to 10 May 2024, for it to be transferred to East London Regional court. Ends
