Man gets eight years imprisonment for rape

TWEESPRUIT – The Ladybrand Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit together with the National Prosecuting Authority, found Reamohetswe Mokoena (24), from Khotha Section, Borwa township near Tweespruit guilty of rape and sentenced him to eight years of direct imprisonment by Thaba Nchu Regional Court on 30 April 2024.

In October 2022, a 15-year-old girl was attacked and assaulted by the victim on her way back home from a neighbouring farm.

The accused took the victim’s cellphone forcefully and raped her. A case of rape was opened at Tweespruit police station, which was transferred to the Ladybrand FCS Unit and it was allocated to Sergeant Olebile for further investigation. The investigator successfully opposed bail, and the accused awaited trial in prison until his conviction.
